KYOCERA & THE ENVIRONMENT
Kyocera’s ECOSYS Technology provides customers with a printing
solution that incorporates long-life consumables and the lowest
comparable cost per print - Welcome to Economical Efficiency and a
Better Environment.
KYOCERA 'S ECOSYS PRINTER TECHNOLOGY
Conservationism Cuts Costs
Kyocera introduced the cartridge-free ECOSYS printer concept in 1992
as a means of reducing the user's Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) while
improving the printer's environmental impact. The ECOSYS printer
technology represents a fundamental improvement over conventional laser
printers.
ECOSYS Technology and TCO
Efficiency and productivity in office technology is based around TCO.
This recognizes that the purchase price of the printer is only the first
of a series of costs. With cartridge-based page printers, costs can
easily exceed more than three times the original purchase price during
the life of the product. Kyocera can claim that its toner costs are 1/3
that of competing brands.
Lower Running Costs - Up to 75% lower cost per page
The FS-3800 Series achieved the industry's best cost per page
performance utilizing long-life technology. Over its life, one Kyocera
ECOSYS printer can save a company thousands of dollars in printing
costs. The savings for a company with 100 printers or more is
astounding.
The Low Cost of Color- 50% Lower than Closest Competitor
The FS-C5016N,
Kyocera’s latest color printer edition, is cost-effective and
environmentally friendly. Challenging the traditional high cost of
color, Kyocera now leads the industry by delivering an ultra-low 4.98
cents (MSRP) per color print. Competing brands offer a cost per color
print of six to ten cents or higher. |
|
"Kyocera’s ECOSYS technology has made it possible for users to enjoy
color output at substantially lower incremental costs, typically
associated with color."

commercial printing, channels and digital media services at ARS, Inc., a
competitive market intelligence analysis company. |

Conventional Laser Printers
Conventional printers use an imaging cartridge that integrates a
photoreceptor drum, developer and toner into a single, disposable unit.
When the toner is depleted, the entire cartridge is disposed of and
replaced with a new unit.
The Cartridge-Free ECOSYS Technology System
In contrast, ECOSYS printers feature a durable imaging system based
on Kyocera's patented amorphous silicon print drum (a-Si), a combination
of ceramic and metal. With a surface that is second only to diamond in
hardness, Kyocera’s durable print drum is guaranteed up to 300,000 pages
on the FS-3800 Series and up to 500,000 pages on the FS-9500 Series.
Tiny ceramic particles embedded in Kyocera’s toner continually polish
and recondition the drum during normal printing. This virtually
eliminates the need for replacement of the drum and other cartridge
components, which is typically performed many times over the life of a
conventional printer.
The Result
Kyocera’s ECOSYS printers and
copiers create less waste than any competing
products and have the lowest comparable cost per print.
Environmentally Proactive
Environmental consideration has also been taken in the development
of the materials used in the external casing of ECOSYS printers. A
bromine-free resin blend of polycarbonate and ABS (acrylonitrile
butadiene stryrene) has been employed. Bromine, a fire resistant agent,
is known to release toxic dioxins into the atmosphere when burned at low
temperatures.
ECOSYS Environmental and Cost Benefits
The benefits of Kyocera’s cartridge-free ECOSYS technology are
twofold. Ecologically, ECOSYS can help to eliminate the environmental
burden of used print cartridges worldwide that are now disposed of each
year. Economically, by eliminating the recurring costs associated with
replacement print cartridges, ECOSYS printers provide the industry's
lowest TCO. This incremental savings can recoup the printer's purchase
price in a year or less, particularly in network printing environments.

Kyocera Devices Receive BERTL’s Readers’ Choice
Platinum Award Determined by Equipment Buyers and
Users |
|
Fairfield, New Jersey, February 9, 2005 -
Kyocera Mita America, one of the world's leading
document imaging companies, today announced that it
has been honored with the BERTL Platinum Award in
the category of monochrome reliability. The award is
the result of a worldwide end-user survey conducted
by BERTL to determine the manufacturer who provides
the most reliable digital copier, multifunctional
product (MFP) and printer product line in the world
as rated by actual end-users.

“Reliability is a major factor in maintaining
productivity in any enterprise,” said
Elizabeth McNichol, vice president of corporate
relations for BERTL. “BERTL is continually
impressed with Kyocera’s ability to develop high
performance, reliable products that offer the lowest
total cost of ownership.”

Over the past year, BERTL conducted a worldwide
survey covering 23 manufacturers’ copier, printer
and MFP performances across a range of areas.
Responses were received from enterprise buyers and
technical professionals in 47 countries, responsible
for managing over 175,000 devices in total.
Respondents were questioned on the most important
issues affecting their digital imaging equipment
purchasing decisions, such as ease of use,
productivity, reliability, service and support,
image quality and pricing.

“Kyocera is honored by this worldwide recognition
for the reliability of our monochrome line of
digital copiers, MFPs and printers,” said
Michael Pietrunti, senior vice president, marketing
and technical services, for Kyocera Mita America.
“This is a significant recognition for Kyocera
given that the BERTL Readers’ Choice Awards are
selected by some of the most experienced,
technically savvy and discerning digital imaging
equipment buyers and users. This award – the only
one that is based upon the opinions and experiences
of actual equipment buyers and users, is evidence of
Kyocera’s heritage in providing end-users with
cost-effective products and reliable performance
they can count on.”

Fairfield, New Jersey
– August 19, 2003 - Kyocera Mita, one of the
world's leading document imaging companies, was
honored for the second year in a row with top
ratings in the second annual multi-functional
product (MFP) survey of service managers throughout
the United States conducted by Industry Analysts,
Inc. Kyocera Mita received the highest supplier
rating for MFPs and scored well above competitors in
such categories as reliability, quality and cost of
service. Results of the survey are published in the
July 2003 issue of Industry Analysts, Inc.’s monthly
newsletter, The Office Products Analyst (OPA).

“This survey shows that the dealers are still
impressed with the reliability of Kyocera Mita’s
line of MFPs,” said Andy Slewetsky, vice

vendor in the survey. We congratulate Kyocera Mita
for its dedication to providing dealers and
end-users with a product that provides peace of mind
and reliability.”

The Office Products Analyst performed 152 interviews
with dealer service managers in copier dealerships
nationwide - which represents nearly 50,000
installed MFPs. Ratings, were compiled using a scale
of one to ten, with ten representing the highest
rating. Out of the 15 categories, technicians gave
Kyocera Mita highest rating in 14 of 15 categories,
including Product Reliability (9.1), General Ease of
Maintenance (9.2), Copy and Print Image Quality
(9.1, 9.2) and an overall rating of 9.0.

perceptions of service managers interviewed who have
serviced each model, Kyocera Mita has recorded nine
models on this year’s ‘Recommended Purchase’
list and three ‘Best in Class’ models which
include the KM-2530 (Rated the highest of all units,
9.6), KM-5530 and the
KM-6330.

service managers across the country consider our
line of digital MFPs to be the most reliable
products in the industry,” said Michael
Pietrunti, vice president of marketing, Kyocera Mita.
